Arctic Animals II and Hypatia of Alexandria

Dear Stitchers,
I have been through difficult days and I was stuck with the presentation of the new patterns, so I decided to start showing you the first two ones and to introduce you to the others as soon as they are ready, so we can celebrate this wonderful summer on more than one occasion.
The first pattern that I am happy to show you is the second set of my beloved Arctic Animals, which have come straight from the glaciers, snows and white lands of the north to bring you a pinch of cold but very tender joy.

This set consists of the adorable white ermine, the snow hare, the sweet puffin, the spotted seal and the cute orca.
They join the previous set and together they spread freshness on our hot summer days.

The second pattern immediately became one of my favorite ones, both because of the colors that were inspired to me by the warm and red land of Egypt, and because it is dedicated to a woman from the distant past who still lives in the hearts of many of us: Hypatia of Alexandria.
Hypatia, one of the greatest Science Women was a great ancient Greek philosopher, mathematician and astronomer, born in the second half of the 4th century AD. She taught in the school of Alexandria and habitually frequented the immense Library of Alexandria, which a few years later would be entirely burned and destroyed. She increased her wisdom to the point, as Socrates Scholastic says, “that she far surpassed all the philosophers of her time, to follow in the Platonic school brought back to life by Plotinus and to explain all the philosophical sciences to those who wanted it. For this reason, all those who wished to think philosophically flocked to her from all over.”

Her days spent to deepen mathematics and philosophy, the nights spent with her eyes raised to the night sky, to measure and observe the movement of the stars of the planets.
It was precisely her knowledge that began to attract the hatred of certain Christian fanatics, who finally killed her with unprecedented violence.
But she lived on, so much that we still remember and celebrate her today.
In my vision and in my design I represented her as a woman completely devoted to knowledge, a “Priestess of Numbers and Stars”, with her armillary sphere and the sextant.
If you don't know the movie Agora, where Hypatia is played by the fabulous Rachel Weisz, I highly recommend you to see it. It's painful, but at least once I think it's important to watch it.

I really hope that you like these two new patterns and I'll see you very soon with all the other new summer releases ;)
A warm hug to you all,
Laura – The Little Stitcher

Laura – The Little Stitcher
